[Than creates a mental checklist of these things that are being covered in this very conversation.
Tea??? - will be taught and understood. How to be likeable? - Be yourself (seems like bad advice) How to entertain? - still working on it.]
I don't know if being myself will work. I was actually hoping... because so many people here love you... You could teach me how to be a bit more like you. I think that might work better.
And since she's the Goddess of Beginnings... she's probably seen it all. I'm not sure what I could do to be entertaining or interesting. Death isn't a fun subject for most. Even other Gods don't like it. She mentioned dancing but I don't know how to do that either.
[It's quite the scene, Thanatos who floats and towers over Rosie with his hands pressed together hopefully like a child truly pleading to his mother. For all the ages Thanatos has lived he's socialized for not even a fraction of it. Nor has he truly wanted to all that much until this very moment. Blood and Darkness, even his conversations with Zagreus don't last more than a few passing words.]
[ It is definitely A Lot. At least, for someone like Thanatos. Not that that's meant to be a criticism, just... A fact. He hasn't had much interaction with others, after all, has he? And especially not a deity from another reality. ]
Oh, I- [ Excuse her as she flushes a bit from the mention of so many people here loving her. While she's not sure that's true, she does tend to put herself out there more than she doesn't. ] I'd be glad to, really, but know that I still want some of you to show through, too.
[ It makes sense though, doesn't it? When Death meets himself and loses purpose, then what else is he to do but try and follow his heart in other ways? She's proud of him for trying, really, if nothing else. ] And you're in luck, in that case because I am an amazing dancer. She sounds like a classier lady, really, so... Maybe a nice waltz. Still, if she's looking for something interesting or entertaining than I can teach you a trick or two to spice it up and maybe surprise her a little.
[Waltz is not a dance he knows. But he believes Rosie in regards to being an excellent dancer. So he simply nods, ceasing his floating to stand instead. He still looms over her but it's not quite so overwhelming now that he's not near the ceiling.]
A trick...? Okay. She did want some other kind of entertainment. Yes. This will work, I hope.
[ Well, she realized that once Hypnos actually stood up instead of floated nearby that he was... also very tall. It's not actually surprising that Thanatos is too if they're twins. ]
A trick! If she wants to be entertained, then I'm your gal. Well, I'm the gal to teach you. So, let's start with a classic waltz-
[ She'll stand in front of him and hold her hands up in 'position' for him to mimic and hold. ]
[He wearily looks between her face and hands before finally taking them in his own. His skin is cold to the touch which he normally apologizes and warns for. Rosie has probably heard it enough from him by now so he just purses his lips together and takes her hand.]
Is it a difficult dance, the waltz?
[He can't think of one moment where knowing how to dance mattered in his life. But now it feels extremely important! If he doesn't how will he make a good impression on that Goddess?]
[ She has and has reassured him it's fine; after all, she's resilient to the cold. So, it works out! She hardly notices. ]
Not at all, [ she says, making minor adjustments to their posture and stances. If they're going to do this, it needs to be done right! ] It's actually one of the easier ones, but I can add a little flair to make sure she's impressed.
So, yes- I think she will! If nothing else, she'll probably find it charming. And that's kind of what we're going for, right? Okay, so- Follow my lead.
[ Usually, it's the man that leads but for the sake of demonstration, Rose doesn't mind taking that role. She's careful and obvious with her movements to help him follow along. ]
[The God of Death watches very closely. The movements. The steps. He even tucks his legs up to float off the ground on occasion to pay attention better while not stumbling with his own movements. He's not usually ground bound and he certainly doesn't do any fancy footwork when he is.
Thanatos eventually settles back down when he feels he has a better understanding and attempts to mimic with more precision. Will the Goddess he met like this? He's incredibly uncertain still but he does believe Rosie knows what she's talking about. Especially when it comes to things like this. Who better than she to assist him in all these delicate matters?]
Lady Rosie... [He begins with some hesitation, squinting at his own feet as he falls out of sync for just a moment.] In the land that you came from do you know the Goddess Sothis?
[ She does know! Well, to a point... While she can't claim that it's universal, dancing has always been a skill that's fun to utilize in order to impress. The waltz is also a classic and easy to learn as well as teach. The woman imagines that Sothis knows it but in case she doesn't, well- That's something novel that Thanatos will be able to indulge her in. Right? Anyway, she's getting to that trick but his question catches her a little off guard. ]
I don't. Didn't? She... wasn't one of my deities, at least. [ Her and Seteth had talked a bit about that. Their parts in the religions of their respective worlds and what it meant; for Rose, she didn't hold much fondness for the so-called 'gods' of her home. ] But in Seteth's land, she is. So, he knows her.
Actually, she's his mother. It's... still kind of a lot to take in, honestly.
What? [Lord Seteth's mother is the Goddess Sothis? So distracted by this information Than can't help but stumble a bit with the steps and goes back to floating for a few moments.]
Does that make him a God too? Or... a Demi God even?
[He had no idea... Perhaps the uniquely colored hair should have been a stronger clue.]
[ Oh, oops- Maybe she should have prefaced that a bit better? Or not... dropped such information so casually. ]
You know, I'm not actually sure? I'd have to ask. He's told me about his mother but, now that I think about it, not his dad so... Not sure how all that worked.
Either way, you've got an in since you can also ask Seteth what she likes.
[ Rosie, that's weird. Do you not realize that's weird? ]
Oh. Well, I haven't spoken to Lord Seteth a great deal.
[He glances away for a moment.]
I am uncertain of his temperament but assumed that perhaps he was a bit like Lord Hades. And if that was the case he probably didn't want to be bothered with those that serve the House. I understand that Hypnos and I do not quite fill that role... But...
Well, I've sort of been waiting for him to tell me to do something. [Or hoping he would anyway.] Like any Lord of a home would do.
I don't speak much to Lord Hades unless it is to be scolded for poor performance, which rarely happens, I assure you. [Gotta make that very clear that he is a hard worker and does not slack. The Zagreus stuff just got him into a lot of trouble.] Or to give my reports...
I do talk to Queen Persephone a bit and my mother too. So I feel more comfortable speaking freely with you. I figured if it was wrong to do so he would tell me. If Lord Seteth is also a God I will be even more mindful so not to upset him.
[ That sounds a bit... cold. Distant. It reminds her, almost, of how she'd been with Charlie on his bad days. Although they were together, she also understood the importance of their relevant work and how that came first. ]
Oh, please, don't worry about bothering or upsetting him or anything like that. Seteth can be a bit serious and stuffy around those he doesn't know as well but he's really a sweet guy. He helped me take in Hypnos, after all, when he needed some help. [ She might have acted a bit impulsively there but once he realized just how lost Hypnos was with how to be more functionally human, well... He changed his tune pretty quickly. ]
Don't be afraid to talk to him if you'd like, honestly. He's a lot older than me and has some pretty awesome advice when it comes to more difficult matters. A lot of the people from his world looked up to him like a father figure, almost, it seems and... I can't blame them! He definitely has that quality.
[Thanatos lowers his gaze back to their feet, settling himself once more to try and follow.]
Perhaps... I've never had a father. As you probably know from Hypnos. But we were made from stardust and the night sky and born into this world. Just one of Mother Nyx's many children but likely the the two she spent the most time with. The rest all went on their own way rather quickly. Like my sisters, the Fates.
Olympian fathers leave very little to be desired. So, I don't have a good grasp on what on what one would constitute as someone who is worthy of being looked up to in that regard.
[ She falls back into the steps easy enough. Music and dance is like second nature to her, after all, and so she hardly misses a beat. ]
Yeah, he told me something like that. [ She remembers being told he was formed of stardust. It explained a lot, in the beginning, about his struggles with his faux mortality and confusion about basic things. She had also heard about Mother Nyx but... She was biased, perhaps, due to her fondness for Hypnos but she did want to have words with his mother about her treatment of him over what she did know. ]
Well, mine also wasn't... the best. [ That's putting it lightly. ] So, I wouldn't know personally but- Seteth is caring. Kind. Compassionate. He worries for Flayn's safety. Even if it can be a bit much at times, well- It's just obvious how much he cares and doesn't want anything bad to happen to her if he can help it. He's also older and wiser for his experiences, which is a trait more associated with fatherhood than not. Life experience and all that.
But I think what a lot of people like, myself included, is that he knows how to listen. He knows how to let you speak and really pay attention to what you say and... It goes a long way sometimes, honestly, just to be heard.
