Character Name: Hanako "Rosie" Nurumi

Character History:

Born a 'defective' yokai, Rosie has felt displaced her entire life. She was rejected by her pack and left to become a lone wolf from a very young age. Years of this isolation and alienation from her own kind (though she'd rather use the term 'independence') has made her a bit reluctant to rely on anyone besides herself.

She took a shady deal to enter the world of humans she'd felt a closer kinship with since she could remember. It led to her enslavement in a fighting ring for otherworldly creatures like her. They would battle to the death for entertainment and profit. Her previously gained self-preservation instincts served her well there. When slated for a breeding program to further the lineage of 'champions,' she and a friend plotted their escape. He didn't make it but ensured that she did.

The damage done on their way out has put a bounty upon her head. For a while, she traveled under the guise of a simple roadie. It allowed her to hide in plain sight whilst also following a love of music discovered during her darkest days in the fighting ring.

Eventually, she found her way into working as an informant for a fellow yokai who wished to break up the fighting rings they were both subjected to. It was only too late she realized that his goals were more intensive in scope than originally proposed. He wishes to actually swing the pendulum the other way and let demonkind reign in place of humanity. But he also promised her safety, security, and things she'd never thought possible so she keeps finding reasons to stay.

She's become a songbird in a gilded cage, trapped again just with nicer window dressings.

Canon Abilities:

Hand-to-Hand Combat. As a fighter, her strength was hand-to-hand combat. Rose is well versed in Aikido and Muay Thai, specifically.

Weapon(s) Proficiency. Both blades and firearms proficient. Prefers short-range when using firearms. She is also most comfortable with short blades.

Musically Gifted. She is able to sing (mezzo-soprano range), play guitar and piano fluently, learn instruments at a quick rate, and can carry a tune in a bucket to save her life. This also extends to her ability to dance and pick up new culture's dances quickly and easily.

Superhuman strength. Though she appears "petite" demon strength often defies appearances. She's about as strong as three adult human men combined.

Enhanced speed and agility. Rose's speed is above average for even her kind. At her fastest, she can appear as a blur to the human eye, which is a feat impressive to even some yōkai.

Heightened Senses. Being part animal, Rose is able to hear, smell, and see better than the average person.

Night Vision. Able to see well in low light conditions.

Small control over ice. Being an okami from the Northern Clan of the Makai and living in a harsh, frigid environment they all have some ability to manipulate ice. It's very small and is about the equivalent of using an ice pack; she can freeze things if she really concentrates but it's still difficult for her.

Healing (minor). Although none of her kind should have the ability to, another way she was set apart as strange from a young age was being able to heal. Since she never learned how to use this power properly and keeps it hidden for the most part, she can't use it for severe injuries. She can heal small cuts, bruises, etc.

Glamour. More powerful yokai are able to mask their appearance to seem human. This is mostly to trick humans into trusting them and drawing close enough to attack and eat them. For Rose, she keeps this glamour on to seem human and while it's become second-nature to her now it can still drop during moments of intense physical and/or emotional struggle.

Inventory: Other than the clothes on her back, Rosie will be arriving with:

Acoustic Guitar. A regular 'ol guitar in a black pleather case. On the inside are taped three pictures from home of various people.

🦋 Personality

Option 2:

• Dead - All her life, Rosie has been marked by and seemingly followed by the dead. It started with her mother dying when she was young. Then, it was someone sacrificing themselves to save her and ensure that she lived. After that, it was someone ending up caught in the crosshair meant for her head. She started to believe that a proximity to her was just a death sentence for those unaware.
  
  Her final moments back home indicated though that it was finally, truly her time to meet death herself; yet, she awoke to something else entirely. While she isn't foolish enough to think that she can truly escape Death, she is going to enjoy this borrowed time while she's able to. Yet, the knowledge that she is technically among the dead will grip her tightly and prevent her from truly trying to live before long.


• Dance - One of the few things that always made sense to Rosie has been music. No matter where she goes or what she's going through, there is a song to be found with it. Some of her earliest memories are of her mother singing her to sleep. In tune with that (pun intended) is the art of dance. Despite the differences between people around the globe, almost every cultural group has a way of expressing themselves through dance. It's one of the many, many things the woman finds to be beautiful about humanity.
  
  People come together often through and with dance. It's an intimate connection to share with another person. Someone's preferred style can say a lot about them, too! Rosie's own favorite dance is Swing, which is usually aligned with very fast and upbeat music as well as using one's strength to pull off impressive stunts. However, she also enjoys the slower and more concentrated pace that comes with certain ballroom dances. There tends to be a dance, like a song, for almost any occasion and it can be a great way to connect.
  


• Pride - Yōkai by and large tend to be a prideful species. Rosie, as in most ways, tries to be the exception to this when it comes to her kind. While her pride over some things can get in her way now and again, she isn't proud of what she is nor does she truly consider herself better than anyone else for her heritage. Being a demon isn't a basis for looking down on others and especially not humans to her.
  
  Yet, she is vain and that's still a form of pride. Her looks and sex appeal are one of the only things she was led to believe made her worth anything; so, naturally, she tends to be very prideful about them and do her best to be attractive and what people want most. Outside of that though, there aren't many things that Rosie tends to be proud of in her life. Even the things she should be, like her musical abilities, can be downplayed and dismissed as average or not really that great.


• Sin - No one is without the guilt and regret of sinning. Some sings are lesser than others, but Rosie has committed some of the worst of them all. Most might argue the sinful things she's most ashamed of were due to her hand being forced, but there is more to it than that. Isn't there always?
  
  Gluttony, for example, is what drives her hedonistic tendencies. After being denied in so many ways throughout of her life, she seizes every opportunity she can to indulge and feel as good as possible. Lust ties into this nicely with her more primal, baser instincts needing to be fed more often than most. Whether due to her work or simple enjoyment (or both), it can be hard for even her to say.
  
  The sin she knows herself to be capable of and fears most though is wrath. Her anger tends to be deadly and so she does her best to hide behind unassuming smiles and not let much get under her skin. When her emotions do boil over though, her wrath is a force to be reckoned with and can leave quite a mess in its wake.


• Child - A child in her culture tends to be named for the hopes that their parents have for them. Unfortunately for Rosie, she was none of what her parents hoped for. She only disappointed them... or so she was led to believe. At the age equivalent to ten for mortals, she was outcast and left to fend for herself. She never had the chance to truly be a child of her own as a result.
  
  That may be why now she tries to make up for it. Although she isn't always childish and immature, she tends to indulge in whimsy and fun more than most. People shouldn't be so serious, she thinks. Why not have fun instead? This can make it seem like she's flippant or dismissive but she doesn't mean to be. Rather, she just wants to enjoy life as a child would: unrestrained, free, and full of wonderment rather than taking things too seriously.


• Flower - Flowers are a language that Rosie has spoken since she can remember. Her given name, Hanako, translates to 'flower child.' From her earliest memories of her mother calling her a 'rose,' flowers have always held deeper meanings. A rose was beautiful and delicate, but not without its thorns. It's the hope that her mother wanted for her. Her father, meanwhile, called her a dandelion. Most might take it as an insult, but he said it was because people underestimated the resiliency of flowering weeds.
  
  A nickname she uses to this day is 'wildflower.' Given to her during one of the darkest parts of her life, it was a reminder that she was stronger than she gave herself credit for. She bloomed in a place she wasn't meant to instead of withering away like wildflowers often do.


• Door - They say that when one door opens, another one closes. For example: The death of Ren ensured that she lived. While the door on a life with him closed, a door to a life of her own opened. As a result, she was able to travel as a roadie and gain more worldly knowledge. It allowed her the opportunity to learn about so many new people and places. She is much more adventurous for her experiences and more likely to take risks or do what she wants to.
  
  While she wishes she could leave closed doors alone though, she has a bad tendency to ruminate on what could have been behind them than appreciate the ones opened for her. She also sometimes tries to force doors open that are closed to her. It doesn't often work, but that hasn't stopped her from trying either. Someday, it'll work. Probably.
