Name: Hanako 'Rosie' Nurumi

Species: Yōkai
Appearance: Rosie is 5'1", 110lbs soaking wet, petite as can be but surprisingly busty. Her hair is a strawberry blond color and eyes a dark brown. At a glance, she doesn't look like much beyond your average tiny Japanese lady. She usually wears make-up but just enough to hide any hints of exhaustion from how little she actually sleeps, even for her kind.
Canon point: Ninth Life, shortly after Charlie is killed and an attempt on Rose's life is made.

History: Born a 'defective' yokai, Rosie has felt displaced her entire life. She was rejected by her pack and left to become a lone wolf from a very young age. Years of this isolation and alienation from her own kind (though she'd rather use the term 'independence') has made her a bit reluctant to rely on anyone besides herself.

She took a shady deal to enter the world of humans she'd felt a closer kinship with since she could remember. It led to her enslavement in a fighting ring for otherworldly creatures like her. They would battle to the death for entertainment and profit. Her previously gained self-preservation instincts served her well there. When slated for a breeding program to further the lineage of 'champions,' she and a friend plotted their escape. He didn't make it but ensured that she did.

The damage done on their way out has put a bounty upon her head. For a while, she traveled under the guise of a simple roadie. It allowed her to hide in plain sight whilst also following a love of music discovered during her darkest days in the fighting ring.

Eventually, she found her way into working as an informant for a fellow yokai who wished to break up the fighting rings they were both subjected to. It was only too late she realized that his goals were more intensive in scope than originally proposed. He wishes to actually swing the pendulum the other way and let demonkind reign in place of humanity. But he also promised her safety, security, and things she'd never thought possible so she keeps finding reasons to stay.

She's become a songbird in a gilded cage, trapped again just with nicer window dressings. And when that cage was bust open by her boss' enemies, she believes herself to have met her end... until she woke up here.

Personality answers:

1. Your character must live with only one sense for a year. They are allowed to choose. What do they pick? Why? How do they cope?
   Rosie would pick her sense of hearing. While her seeing and smelling are enhanced so it'd be a definite adjustment, she couldn't imagine trying to navigate without being able to hear the world around her. Being able to find the natural music and rhythm in life is one of her only joys; if that was taken away, she'd be at a loss for how to move forward.
   
   Being unable to contribute to it anymore would also be difficult but she'd persevere knowing it was only for one year. As shown by her life thus far, the woman is adaptable and resilient. She'd be able to overcome the obstacle of only having one sense to work with temporarily. In the end, she'd also think she had a great story to tell from it. Life is all about the experiences, after all!


2. What does your character think about physical appearances? Are they the sort to meticulously primp themselves, or could they not care less?
   For the last few years, Rosie has basically had her self-worth tethered to her appearance. While she wasn't always so focused on looks, the position that she's been in and having to appeal to people constantly skewed her views quite dramatically and swiftly. These days, one of the only things that seems to matter is how attractive - and by extension, how fuckable - she is to other people.
   
   Due to that, she cares a lot about appearances. She cares... probably too much about appearances! At least, for herself. While she doesn't judge anyone else, she can become anxious if she thinks she looks unattractive in any sense of the word. She is meticulous about her make-up, hair, and tries to find clothes that accentuate her well; however, this can vary depending on the person she's trying to appeal to and their tastes. Her style is ever-changing and eclectic from the outside, but the pattern becomes obvious after a while that she's trying to appeal to as many people as she can individually and will follow whatever they seem to like best.


3. What is your character most afraid of?
   Her common fears are quite mundane. She doesn't like spiders and is afraid of heights. If asked what she's most afraid of, something like that wwould probably be the superficial answer she'd give to avoid the vulnerability of the truth. After all, that's what Rosie fears most: someone seeing her as the monster she actually is.
   
   Although she tries to go against her demonic nature as a yokai at every opportunity, there are parts of her past that paint her as the very 'demon' many people are immediately afraid of and detest. So, she is most afraid of someone seeing all of her - the good, the bad, and the hideous - and being disgusted by it no matter how hard she tries to do the right thing. She did what she had to in order to survive, but suffers from survivor's guilt and wondering what made her life more important than theirs. She's so scared that the reality is: nothing, and she was just lucky.


4. What would your character say is their best trait? What is truly their best trait?
   For a non-serious answer: her tits. Because, like, come on. Have you seen these things? They're remarkable. For a slightly more serious answer: her voice. It's one of the few things about her that she knows is attractive but inherently so. Even if she was ugly, she could still sing beautifully. A life as a siren wouldn't be so bad, she'd say, luring people in with her gorgeous songs but being a harpy in reality. They seem to be doing pretty well for themselves!
   
   For the actual answer: her kindness and compassion. After everything Rosie has been through, she is quick to empathize and give people more chances than maybe they should. After all, she got her chances due to the kindness of others. Why shouldn't she pay that forward where she can? And while her well-meaning can also be a drawback, she'd never want to be someone that didn't give a person the chance to change.

Powers/Abilities:

• Hand-to-Hand Combat. As a fighter, her strength was hand-to-hand combat. Rose is well versed in Aikido and Muay Thai, specifically.


• Weapon(s) Proficiency. Both blades and firearms proficient. Prefers short-range when using firearms. She is also most comfortable with short blades.


• Musically Gifted. She is able to sing (mezzo-soprano range), play guitar and piano fluently, learn instruments at a quick rate, and can carry a tune in a bucket to save her life. This also extends to her ability to dance and pick up new culture's dances quickly and easily.


• Superhuman strength. Though she appears "petite" demon strength often defies appearances. She's about as strong as three adult human men combined.


• Enhanced speed and agility. Rose's speed is above average for even her kind. At her fastest, she can appear as a blur to the human eye, which is a feat impressive to even some yōkai.


• Heightened Senses. Being part animal, Rose is able to hear, smell, and see better than the average person.


• Night Vision. Able to see well in low light conditions.


• Small control over ice. Being an okami from the Northern Clan of the Makai and living in a harsh, frigid environment they all have some ability to manipulate ice. It's very small and is about the equivalent of using an ice pack; she can freeze things if she really concentrates but it's still difficult for her.


• Healing (minor). Although none of her kind should have the ability to, another way she was set apart as strange from a young age was being able to heal. Since she never learned how to use this power properly and keeps it hidden for the most part, she can't use it for severe injuries. She can heal small cuts, bruises, etc.


• Glamour. More powerful yokai are able to mask their appearance to seem human. This is mostly to trick humans into trusting them and drawing close enough to attack and eat them. For Rose, she keeps this glamour on to seem human and while it's become second-nature to her now it can still drop during moments of intense physical and/or emotional struggle.

Goals: For Rosie, often perhaps counterintuitively, I enjoy exploring her finding worth outside of sex. While she will at first undoubtedly care a lot about her image, sex appeal, and so on- It is my hope that she reaches a point where she starts to recognize those things don't need to matter as much. The bond with her Natural-Soul and the 'monstrous' transformation that comes of it will be a fun way to explore her realizing that looks aren't, in fact, everything.

I want her to learn that she can appeal to others with her musical talent, creativity, and other talents. Sex can be something she enjoys, too, but doesn't need to be everything nor is only what makes her worth anything.
